End 2 End Part 2 . . . . coming soon!

Simon’s provisional trip itinerary as follows.

Starting 13th September @ Penrith. (with daily blog updates)

Day 1: Penrith to Moffat: (57.9 Miles)
Day 2: Moffat to Edinburgh (Down Tweed Valley) 49.8 Miles
Day 3: Edinburgh to Blairgowie (52 Miles)
Day 4 : Blairgowie to Ballater (45 very hilly miles! 2200ft climb to Devil’s Elbow)
Day 5: Ballater to Inverness (62 miles)
Day 6 Inverness to Helmsdale (70 Miles)
Day 7 Helmsdale to John O Groats (50 miles)

The first two days fall across a weekend so please do come and join me if you can! A train home from Edinburgh makes return easy. The trip along the Tweed valley is excellent and Moffat is a pretty little town. The days are shorter to allow for a few visits (i.e. a cuppa with Liz in Balmoral)

I’d of course be very grateful for any moral support and/or accommodation offers along the way.

:- )

Simon

BTW: I'm not collecting my off-line sponsorship until I complete the trip!

I'm up for that first weekend! Let us know as soon as dates are confirmed and I'll book my train tickets. (Kip on the night train back from Ed on Sun night and you can be back in London next morning for 15 quid...!)

See you for lunch next week! I'm working in Lincoln's Inn Fields which is 2 min walk from Holborn. Local attractions include London's best fish and chip shop!

Bed, breakfast and evening meal in Edinburgh will of course be available gratis at Chateau Wedgwood in Colinton (hey, we're even on the right side of town - south-west edge, so you don't have to trog on into the city - how convenient is that?).

I'll see what bits I can join you for cycling - I only possess a mountain bike (of sorts) so am limited by that and its inability to transport stuff in panniers. Maybe I could come down on the train to Penrith and do something like Penrith to Carlisle or Lockerbie and get back on the train there. The next day I could do a stint from home where I ride out to meet you somewhere south west of Edinburgh and accompany you in for the last 15 miles or so of that day?

Then there's always an early morning pedal out from Edinburgh to the north before waving you goodbye at the Forth Bridge or somewhere.

Will get my thinking cap on.

Since there's a good chance that Si will be cycling a good proportion of this by himself, for End2End part two I will be driving the support vehicle - which means no need to carry luggage, and transport to and from stations if necessary (and a bail out option for support riders if absolutely necessary!!). I'm planning to take my bike too, and cycle with Simon for a hour or two at each end of the day.

Righto. Will bear that in mind, Sue - Thanks. So there goes my cast iron excuse for not having to do the full extent of c.60 mile-long days.
30 miles on Arran was about my limit, so if I'm being (subtly!) challenged to ride with Simon for a whole day I shall have to get in training!

Will you be driving up to Penrith on the Saturday morning?

In which case, do consider that a subtle challenge (if you wish). It's a great reason to work at getting fit. The route from Moffat involves a big climb initially but then a stunning ride down the Tweed Valley which I'm sure you'd enjoy. Rob's in and I'll be tempting others to join in for the first couple of days.

Did you know that Moffat has the World's narrowest detached hotel?

Lockerbie is probabaly the nearest station if you wished to travel over on Saturday ready for the Sunday trip home. :-)

Pump your tyres up hard and you'll get away with riding the mountain bike for the day.

Rob we'll either drive Penrith Saturday early or may sieze the opportunity to stay at Lex's mum's im Bampton Friday night (10m south of Penrith). TBC but I can get on the case if you need to book tickets soon.
