Day 8 early start

Up at 6 today for a grey, damp ride into Ayr. When we reached the coast it got much nicer. Made the ferry for Arran quite comfortably and met my brother Paul who will ride with us over the island to Lochranza. Very comfy seats on the ferry!

Paul, I'm a bit concerned that you knee is strapped up and you're not even off the ferry yet. Are you sure you're up to this? That hill in Sannox is very long!

Enjoy Arran! I remember cycling round there with Rob a few years ago. We particularly liked the golf course where if you miss, your ball ends up the sea. Small tip: don't get seduced by visions of Islay whisky as Rob and I did!

'Sannox'? Ah yes, I remember. Sounds like something you'd put down the lavatory. Mind you, there are several other places in Scotland I wouldn't mind putting down the lavatory.

Don't worry Cath, the knee support bandage was precautionary and seemed to do an OK job - I only have mild Simonitis as I rest up here tonight, back at Wedgwood Towers in Edinburgh. What a lovely afternoon on an unfeasibly sunny and beautiful Arran. Much better weather than when we there 2 years ago!

My botty is a bit sore, though. I'm not used to spending that long in the saddle - a mere 30 miles for me, not a patch on what the team endure on their iron ponies every day. They are tough cookies!

It was great to see Mark, Lex & Rich - they are all well and in great spirits (although Lex seemed to be in need of a good lie-in - 6am starts are harsh!). Very sad not to have Uncle Simon there - the long descent in to Lochranza would have been ideal for his 'dangerous' antics!
